In/outdoor vegetable garden by Matali Crasset

It has taken me a while to get an image -if not a picture of this great new design seen at Maison et Objet 09:

Is it a kitchen in a garden?
Is it a garden in a kitchen?

Will the distinction still be around in 20 years?

The design is now on tour to help inspire new ways of seeing 'food' and reconciling urban living and food production. And that in itself is fantastic!

'Cuis'in Nature" by Matali Crasset and Frederick e. Grasser-Hermé
is  a domestic vegetable garden, including  a fruit- and vegetable-pantry, and naturally a kitchen to prepare and share  the production! .

The Tipple Mini Glasshouse: a lesson for modern designers

Outdoor decor is attracting the elite designers...not all with real knowledge of the magical world of plant growing !  So here is a leaf out of a more classic brand's book.
Tipple Containers  makes lovely lovely lovely containers and just added The Tipple Glasshouse.
This is really a function driven innovation :
suitable for growing edibles such as tomatoes, salad crops and vegetables in otherwise poor conditions.  Perfect for propagation and protecting tender plants through the winter. Compact glasshouse design suitable for any garden size.

Follow Michelle Obama and create a veg patch in even tiny spaces

270_PC100111_1_ It seems Michelle Obama has created a veg patch at the White House.
I guess that says a lot about the Hipness of the Grow your Own trend.

Urban space is rare and that can hamper ones real life ambitions in the food growing department.

But good news: this planter seems a very good solution . Get it at http://www.urbangarden.bz/
'We have created a unique design of a 100% organic raised western red cedar planter that allows one to grow approx. 50 to 55 vegetables, herbs, and plants all within a 3x4 footprint of space.  We also have a small herb garden design of the same organic construction.'
' The Urban Garden addresses the two major issues that keep most people from growing their own produce. Time and space.!'

The micro organic garden design allows for low maintenance.

The three foot by four foot footprint allows apartment and condominium owners to have a garden on most balconies. Fresh organic produce awaits you with your purchase of the Urban Garden.'

Outdoor cooking with soul: Koe

I am a firm believer that outdoor space is  not just an extension to the home but a space to add new experiences to daily urban life.

This probably explains why I find this Finnish design fabulous. Koe is a concept kitchen  with various elements , designed with a single goal : create a 'kitchen ' that increases social involvement in homes

One element is a low table with integrated fire that allows one to sit, prepare and share food in a rather unique and most certainly inspiring way.

The concept includes a fan and umbrella to manage the wind and leverage the experience through the feel and smell. Finally his vertical garden on a movable U-shaped wall that also serves as a room divider or a screen. The plants grow in earth-filled pots attached to the screen. Bringing the garden inside the apartment gives us a chance to grow our own vegetables.

The basic must have book : Outdoors By Sir Terence Conran and Co

I was at the Conran Shop this afternoon on the watch out for a few good ideas. I stumbled up this book. I had never wanted to buy it because the co-author GM designs gardens I do not really love... But as I was in the shop, I sat down and discovered how wrong I had been . The book is totally inspirational. It covers everything and every new option: outdoor fireplaces, kids gardens, Hi tech options, family gardens, party gardens...

It has  a very good section on how to make a productive ( IE G YO ) garden even in the tiniest patch with superb style. Sir Terence Conran was already designing kitchen gardens in 1999 - way before it was in fashion. Bravo Conran!

Elite designers: G Y O needs you!

Patiogro_2This is an SOS to designers to save our style creds when we adopt the  new Luxury snobism: G.Y.O , Grow your Own food.

As I was searching the web for something to show on www.MyUrbanFarm.com  I found this quite clever product... sadly looks/ design were not the creators focus.

Grow your own /GYO is  the next cool trend.Uber chic and uber cool - yep that  is what growing food is starting to be.

Showing gourmet creds is now a must  and you cannot buy them - you have to grow them!

So much so that even the trendy Wallpaper and the ultra  fashion and chic  Little Fashion gallery have dedicated whole papers on the  new on Agri cool attitude. Even  glitzzeratti chef  Gordon Ramsay( elite UK chef and now chef in France !) is at it.

So really I do hope the Ego2's, the Serralunga's and the Domani's of the world ( ultra trendy outdoor planter designers)    will soon develop equivalent products but with more aestethic priorities.
FYI :

'PatioGro® has been designed to give you maximum growing area without compromising garden or patio space.

herbs, plants and flowers together in one space at home!
