Recession and Design : Ron Arad will not design 'recession products'
Excellent interview in THE TIMES ...
Even in the toughest times, design should be about more than function, says the ebullient Ron Arad
Ron Arad is vigorously defending the excesses of consumerism. “Three days ago a chair by Eileen Gray was sold for £19 million. Doing better than Picasso,” he says.
“The crunch hasn't had an impact on me. I'm not going to start making design for the recession. I think it's going to be very boring if someone issues an order to do recession-correct pieces.”
Not very P.C ?
More here on his is unapologetic view of why design still commands a premium.

I like that: "Now that there is a solution, you can understand what the problem was.”:) In addition to what you quoted. And I like him.
