Bloomstone22

Lila Das Gupta announces in her Telegraph Blog, that the latest trade figures show the love have affair with decking is officially over... Ouf!

So? What now? Tiles are a great alternative and it is sad that the deco press does not show much of the zillions of new options.

I will try to showcase some examples ...

Chic redefined: the rise and rise of designer edible gardens

L1000170_2

I was happy enough to be invited to the drinks party organized for the launch of Charlotte Rowe's new private garden and met the delightful head of Light IQ ( a London based lighting consultancy who has worked with the top names in UK garden design) . We were discussing My Urban Farm and Rebecca told me how her husband had been enchanted by the display of cabbages in lieu of flowers... And promised me the photo of their find: et voila!

( A kind reader has just told me these are not cabbages ... but they could so I ll keep the image!!!)

I am increasingly meeting people- far from Eco warriors !- who have decided to grow a few  food items of their own.

Outdoor furniture loses its stigma with Frederic Gaunet

Green_benchDespite the massive change the category is under going, I have to say most outdoor pieces would look out of place indoors - despite industry claims that the in/out divide has evaporated. However, I think Gaunet is helping make that claim true.

After having worked as a designer for some of the most amazing brands ( Dior, Guerlain, Jean Paul Gaultier, Issey Miyake, Yves Saint Laurent, Lauder and Clarins) Frederic Gaunet's attention turned to industrial design.
He was behind a very successful modernization of the Tolix chair. Now, he is bringing truly fresh edgy designs to the outdoor market.

His site opened over the week end and is worth a visit:

Airplant - for the busy and/or the lazy : the plant system that needs no watering

Tillandsia are a variety of plants that feed on the air around them. No need to water them at all. Thanks to Airplant's cable system, one can set them up creatively and/ build screens or walls of them. Seen at SabzAldo_airplant_011Airplant21Aldo_airplant_serre011

It is a day changing experience to have installations in ones home... I ' ll let you dream about the possibilities.
And as this one proves, it may not have to cost a fortune.
