Reinventing the concept of park benches: le dejeuner a l'ombre

Parckdesign2b2bdjeuner2bsur2bl27omb Seen on www.Pan-dan.blogspot.com, a design to fall for:
'Déjeuner sur l'ombre
Through the dematerialisation of the object, the idea is to achieve the effect of vibration of shadows. The material (steel sheet) and the process used (laser cutting) enhance the idea of a floating image. The surface offered and the height chosen are an invitation to take a break, sit down or lie down, and enjoy a picnic. Accordingly, Déjeuner sur l’Ombre is not a bench but a surface on which to rest a while.

Illuminated 'reeds' by Klaus Begasse for Artemide

Art_reeds_01_4001With a very stable base, this 155 cm tall set of LED reeds is quite enchanting and it highlights the fact Artemide have an increasingly rich and interesting outdoor offer.

The Corner Garden: the planter that was missing

Corner_garden_urbanware_towillis_4We have seen a revolution in planters recently : from the oversized to the ultra creative ( a la Serralunga/Hadid...) but -quite oddly- new shapes themselves have not been the focus of attention. We have www.urbanware.co.uk to thank for this very simple novelty: the corner garden! It is always soooo obvious in hindsight that something was missing!

Eco-friendly, festive and chic: Jonathan Stockton's triple play at Chelsea 2007

Jonathan_stockton_set_with_champa_4My key find in terms of furniture at this year's flower show was the work produced by Jonathan Stockton. I am not surprised to discover his set of furniture has been bought to enhance a private home in London's ultra chic Chelsea.

The set has three very unusual assets:

- it is festive : there is a matching Champagne stand and each piece can be fitted with an internal LED to bring it to light.

- he has developed a high back bench to match- right on trend ( this shape is a new must have)

- it is eco friendly : he produces them in FSC oak or reclaimed teak-on request and subject to availability and  has his own FSC chain of custody certificate
