Taking the guess work out of sourcing a garden designer

    TALENT SCOUTING

Finding a garden designer is like finding the right architect.Relying on friends and ' the word around town'  is great but sometimes you can be missing out on a better match for you. Coverimagethe20importance20of20perfect20_1

This blog will be showcasing our quest for those talents that can make THE difference.

    GETTING IT RIGHT

A lot of us have become very aware of the challenges of getting the design of our home right. But for many, outdoor design is more of a Terra incognita. The consultancy's proprietary process helps clients maximise their investment, through from the research stage to briefing to completion.

E mail me for full access to our garden designer talent data base in the Business Gallery.

    Investing in Art

A single striking piece will transform your outdoors - whatever the size of your space, and reflect on your interior as well.

Sometimes it is a better investment than having your garden redesigned, replanted etc...

If a piece comes up at Christie's or Sotheby's ... I'll make a note of it.

    Gift Lists for Christmas Dreams

Seems odd thinking about X-mas right now but I think we should! So I am preparing a list of dreams gifts. From 10 to 10 000 pounds.

Fact is more and more of us have an eye on something we'd love for our outdoors... and that would be great for our X- mas wish list.. but, as the season unfolds, our favorite magazines will stop inspiring us for our outdoor dreams and seduce us into new indoor treats...

So my guess is we will only remember those wish- list treats when the sun reappears wayyyyyyyyyyy after X mas...

I 'll be posting wish lists gathered here and there ... With prices and where to get them from. Always easier that way.

    Furniture for conversation

Toi_et_moi_with_table2 Theodore Zeldin wrote a brilliant book about  Conversation... How it changes lives, how it how the power to build or destroy relationships between lovers, families or business partners... He discusses what we say, but also how we talk, how much time we dedicate to it...

I think he'd approve us giving special thought to a couple designs that make such a great contribution to that!

I have spotted two seaters ( www.domani.be) and swings ( yes swings - not kiddy ones!) that I 'd love to share with you...

    Sculpture or coffee table?

We love Maya_lin_stones_k07 the Stones coffee table that offers a low, monolithic ellipse of colored cement as sculpture for use indoors and out, part of Maya Lin's 60th anniversary collection for Knoll.

    Eco-friendly designs

Cube_low2There is a definite shortage of attractive stools, both eco-friendly and eco-inconsiderate. We spotted  Acronym's indoor/outdoor stool made of reclaimed walnut hardwood and brushed stainless steel.  These square seats are a deeper shade of green, as the reclaimed top uses the cutoff from the manufacturing of reclaimed flooring held together with low VOC glues.

More in Europe soon? Help us track eco designers!

    Hippy Shopper

Seen at the Hippy Shopper :

    Bespoke twig bench from Nigel's

Logs Twig bench from Nigel's Eco Store is a hefty chunk of nature - around w 160 d 46 h 46 cm, with variation based on it being, you know, hand made.  Do allow six weeks' lead time on it though and considering the size plus the weight (65-75 kilos) it's not surprising that it's only available in the UK.  £1,150.00.

Made from coppiced hazel from the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust, this bench was originally a unique piece for Neal's Yard Remedies' head office in Dorset.  You can put it outside (naturally) but it is recommended as an indoor piece.  [GT]
